Prof. Kwaku Poku Asante Named ASTMH Distinguished International Fellow

Prof. Kwaku Poku Asante, Director of the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC), has been recognized by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), as a Distinguished International Fellow for his outstanding contributions to global health. This prestigious award was presented at the ASTMH’s Annual Meeting held in New Orleans, Louisiana, from November 13 to 17, 2024.
The ASTMH Distinguished International Fellow title is awarded to non-U.S. citizens who have significantly impacted the fields of tropical medicine, global health, and hygiene. Prof. Asante’s recognition is evidence of his decades-long dedication to advancing public health through research, education and policy development, and capacity-building in tropical medicine.
Prof. Asante was among eight esteemed health experts who were celebrated at this year’s ASTMH Annual Meeting for their career achievements, joining the ranks of leading international experts in global health. His recognition proves the critical role researchers and public health professionals from around the world, play in shaping the future of healthcare, especially in countries most affected by tropical diseases.
Prof. Asante expressed his excitement and gratitude to the ASTMH for receiving the prestigious award, pledging his continued dedication to public health and tropical medicine.
With over 20 years of experience in the field, Prof. Asante continues to make impactful contributions to public health research, both in Ghana and many other countries. As a renowned professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, he has mentored students of the University of Ghana and Colombia University, as well as staff of KHRC in their research efforts over the years and has an outstanding publication record with over 100 scholarly articles to his name.
