The Environmental Health Research Team of the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) led by Dr. Sulemana Watara Abubakari conducted Air Pollution (AP) sensitization workshop for the Kintampo North Divisional and Municipal Police as well as the Kintampo South District Police Officers of the Ghana Police Service.

This is because AP is rising to become number one killer, and according to the 2021 State of the Global Air report, 25% of deaths globally are attributed to AP. In order to be able to quantify the contribution of AP exposure during pregnancy to lifetime risk of non-communicable disease to provide the needed evidence for advocacy and action on AP, KHRC deployed 40 ModulairPM (QuantAQ) sensors including 5 gas sensors in 40 communities across the Kintampo North Municipal and Kintampo South District. As part of the sensitization workshop, the meeting discussed security of the sensors and how to involve the various communities in ensuring safety of the AP sensors. Funding for this work is provided by the Clean Air Fund, and is being done in collaboration with the Columbia University and Mount Sinai Medical School. The team visited the Kintampo North Divisional and Municipal Police Service on the 19th of October, 2023; and the Kintampo South District Police Service was visited on 27th March, 2024.
