A team of thirteen researchers from the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) led by Director, Prof Kwaku Poku Asante, participated in the 2024 University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Research Conference to exchange ideas for improving healthcare in Ghana and beyond Africa. The conference, which took place in Ho, from October 29 to 31, was under the theme, “Transforming Health Systems to Achieve Universal Health Coverage in Africa.”
The 3-day conference brought together researchers and policymakers from Ghana and other countries to exchange ideas on a range of health topics, including climate change and one health, traditional medicine integration, digital health innovations, maternal and child health, mental health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, and health promotion through nutrition and hygiene. The event included plenary sessions, science and clinical sessions, as well as oral and poster sessions.
KHRC researchers made significant contributions to the conference, delivering oral and poster presentations on various topics aimed at addressing Africa's major health challenges. Notably, Mrs. Grace Manu, a research fellow, won third place in the poster presentation. Her study, titled “A Mixed-Method Study to Determine Causes of Death Using Minimal Invasive Tissue Sampling and Verbal Autopsy in the Bono East Region, Ghana,” was recognized for its innovative approach to understanding causes of mortality in local communities.
KHRC is a collaborating institution of UHAS and the Centre’s participation in this years’ research conference proves its commitment to advancing health research and academic work to achieve universal health coverage.
