What is NEST Programme about
The NEST Programme is a collaboration between the Kintampo Health Research Centre, the University of Ghana School of Public Health, Columbia University, and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
This program aims to train
Ghanaian researchers to generate evidence on environmental exposures and the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), advancing public health policy and enhancing overall health outcomes.
Expected Impact
The NEST Programme will improve research in Ghana and train experts to study and address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes and heart disease.
These experts will create practical solutions based on research to
reduce the growing impact of these diseases in Ghana and other West African countries.
Datasets to be Used in the Programme
Trainees will be grouped into teams called ‘Cohorts,’ and each team will work with a specific dataset, as outlined below:
Cohort One
Ghana Randomized Air Pollution and Health Study (GRAPHS)
Cohort Two
Pregnancy Risk Stratification Innovation and Measurement Alliance (PRISMA)
Cohort Three
Kintampo Hypertension Program (KHP)
Cohort Four
Kintampo Health and Demographic Surveillance System (KHDSS)
