To provide medical laboratory services and contribute to research and clinical care through good laboratory practice and adherence to quality assurance measures.

· BSc Medical Laboratory Science Licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC)

· At least ONE (1) year experience at a recognized medical laboratory facility. · General knowledge of operations and techniques in Microbiology, Haematology, Chemical Pathology. · Knowledge of Quality Assurance Issues · Knowledge of Health and Safety · Ability to operate new, complex equipment. · Research experience. · Ability to manage own workload under supervision. · Ability to adapt to a changing environment. · Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail · Very good verbal and written skills. · Competence in word processing. · Use of spreadsheets and application of software. · Demonstrate flexibility and a methodological approach to work. · Ability for team work, good organisation and self-motivation. · Good interpersonal skills. · Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

o Carry out routine laboratory tests and assist in the performance of specialized tests. o Undertake laboratory technical work within acceptable turnaround times in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. o Document and keep accurate records to maintain good laboratory practice. o Ensure equipment in their care is maintained to the standards required by the department and by relevant legislation. o Implement internal Quality Control (QC) measures of technical procedures. o Assist in research, evaluation of new techniques and laboratory audits. o Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the head of the Unit.
