Two-day Leadership development workshop ends

A two-day leadership capacity building workshop funded by the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) was held at the KHRC conference hall on the 8th and 9th of January 2018. This was to re-orient and empower senior staff of KHRC and other collaborating institutions under the Ghana Health Service to better perform their roles as leaders in their various capacities. Participants from other Ghana Health Service institutions included the Directors of Health from Kintampo North Municipality and South District. The medical superintendent from the Kintampo north municipal and the Health Administrator for Kintampo south district hospital,  as well as representatives from the College of Health and Well-being. A total of eighty (80) participants took part in the workshop.
The training session was facilitated by Dr. Kofi Issah the Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services and Mr. Emmanuel Dei Tumi, a renowned motivational speaker of Human Capital International.
The two resource persons spoke on the topics; “Role of research in Ghana Health Service” and “Repositioning KHRC for effective team work through empowerment based leadership” respectively.
In his presentation Dr Issah reiterated, among other details, the key role that research plays in the Ghana health service and how KHRC as a Centre can help build capacity in the health facilities and provide evidence for decision making.
Mr. Emmanuel Dei Tumi in his turn as the main facilitator for the workshop took participants through the details of the need for a paradigm shift from a management mentality to that of leadership.
In his closing remarks Dr Kwaku Poku Asante, the acting director of KHRC thanked both speakers for their invaluable presentations. He also commended the staff for attending and hoped they would put to good use the knowledge gained from the workshop.
